Oklahoma Money Matters
AmeriCorps Education Award Program
Oklahoma Money Matters (OKMM) received federal authorization to offer an AmeriCorps Education Award Program, called OKMM-EAP, through which AmeriCorps members working in host sites across the state provide free educational services in personal finance, consumer credit and student financial aid.
Through grassroots community involvement, OKMM-EAP members impact our state’s economic future by promoting responsible spending, the identification and achievement of long-term savings goals and investment in the future. OKMM-EAP goals include:
- heightening Oklahomans’ awareness of the need for financial literacy;
- identifying localized need for financial education;
- building knowledge of financial principles, such as establishing a budget, maximizing savings growth and managing credit debt;
- sharing information and resources;
- developing members’ leadership, citizenship and professional skills; and
- facilitating members’ life-long commitment to community service.
OKMM-EAP members serve 300 hours in a one-year contract, for which they can earn a $1,000 Education Award from the National Service Trust. The Education Award can be used to pay direct educational expenses, such as tuition, room and board, and repayment of student loans.
